Meet our Cornwall Street South Staff
James Farmer | Chief Executive
James has worked for various sets and has clerked all areas of law across the Country for over 10 years. He started life as a Junior Clerk at No5 Chambers before moving to KCH Garden Square and then latterly to Bank House Chambers where he moved across to the management of Chambers as their Chambers Manager.
He joined Cornwall Street Barristers in 2016 and is responsible for all of Chambers’ strategic growth plans and management of Marketing and Business Development, Clerking, Administration and Finance.
James completed his LLB (Hons) with Nottingham Law School in 2017 and obtained an upper second class award whilst working full time. Outside of work he is a keen musical theatre fan and enjoys the outdoors with his young family.
Emily Cole | Chambers Co-Ordinator
Emily joined Maidstone Chambers in 2013 as an office junior apprentice but quickly rose through the ranks to eventually take over the role left by the departing Senior Clerk.
Her role developed into managing the administration of Maidstone Chambers and she now assists the Chief Executive with the administration of Cornwall Street Barristers whilst also being instrumental in the business development of Cornwall Street South.
Adrian Hawes | Practice Manager
Adrian has a wealth of experience in clerking from his many years of service in London Chambers before joining Maidstone Chambers in 2017.
He is responsible for the management and development of the members practising from our Maidstone office and he has a detailed knowledge of all areas of law. He works closely with Emily and Jim to develop Cornwall Street South on the South Eastern Circuit.
Lloyd Hawkins | Senior Practice Manager
Lloyd joins Cornwall Street Barristers after 8 years at the 36 Group in Gray’s Inn. He previously held clerking posts at KCH Garden Square in the Midlands and 3 Raymond Buildings in London.
Possessing over 20 years experience in the legal profession and clerking barristers since 2005, Lloyd has acquired an astute awareness of clients needs and how to provide premium quality levels of service.
He brings extensive experience clerking Junior Barristers and Queens Counsel at the highest levels in all aspects of criminal law (defence & prosecution) in addition to consumer/trading standards, extradition, regulatory, professional discipline, judicial review and high court appeal matters.
Based in London at Cornwall Street’s newly-opened office at the International Arbitration Centre in St Paul’s Courtyard, Lloyd’s remit is to manage all aspects of southern based members practices along with the business development and growth of Chambers’ across the South East.
In his spare time Lloyd attempts to squeeze in seeing family, cruising with Dad and Brother on their Harley Davidsons, surfing, snowboarding, golf, playing guitar and taking his soon-to-be wife on holiday as much as possible!

Helen Purnell | Finance Administrator
Helen has worked in legal finance for over 28 years, 18 of those years have been with Cornwall Street.
Outside Chambers, she surrounds herself with her family keeping her young at heart. In the evening there is nothing she likes more than to get stuck into a good book.
